Join Problem Affecting Broadband Partner Users (AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, British Telecom, Telecom New Zealand)
UPDATE: It appears the work around described below does NOT work for Telecom New Zealand (TNZ) users. Until we can push a fix, there only option is to join groups as email only users by being added or subscribing via email.
There is currently a bug that is preventing Yahoo! Broadband partner users (which include AT&T/SBCGlobal, Rogers, Verizon, British Telecom, Telecom New Zealand) from being able to easily join (or create) groups on the web. This bug has the same root cause as the similar problem affecting YMail and Rocketmail users (and the experience for the user is a similar loop), but the work around to solve the problem is slightly different.
For the moment, these users must first create an alias before they can create a group. To do so, they should:
- Go to http://manage.members.yahoo.com/FULLEMAILADDRESSHERE
(replacing “FULLEMAILADDRESSHERE” with their full email address. So, for example, if the user’s email address was jerry313@att.net, they would enter http://manage.members.yahoo.com/jerry313@att.net )
- Click on the "View My Profiles" link in the navigation at the top of the page
- Click the "Create New Public Profile" button
- Once finished, click the "Finished Editing" button
Now these users should be able to join (or create) groups.
Meanwhile, we’re working on a fix to make this work around unnecessary. And these users can also be added to a group (or can subscribe via email by sending email to GROUPNAME-subscribe@yahoogroups.com) without going through this process either.
Sorry for the extra hassle for these users. But note that the problem only affects users of these services who are joining a group for the first time (and who have not yet got an alias for other reasons). Users with these email addresses who have joined groups in the past on the web will not be affected.

We managed to get around it by creating a new Yahoo account. It would have been nice to know of this problem sooner. We didn’t have any idea why there was a problem….Peace and thanks for letting us know we aren’t going crazy!

Is there anyway to transfer membership in a group from a yahoo.com account to the ISP affiliated account. For example, say I have am a member in a group under the xxxx@yahoo.com account and now wish to transfer that membership to my yyy@bellsouth.net account.
thanks.

@Jeff Maxwell
Yep. You can add the other address (yyy@bellsouth.net) by clicking on the “Membership” link up at the top of the page of the group you wish to modify the membership of. Scroll down to the “Email Address” section. Click “Add New Email Address” Enter your new email address (yyy@bellsouth.net) Click continue. Then when you’re taken back to the Membership page, select that email address as the address you’d like to be used for that group. Click “Save Changes”
Done!
