For those of you who have tested and provided us with feedback on the Groups Beta that we launched earlier this year, I wanted to share an update with you on where we are. We received a lot of really great and helpful feedback based on what you liked, and didn’t like, about the features and enhancements we were testing in the Groups Beta.
- Many of you told us you really liked the ability to customize the homepage to make your groups more personalized (as well as the unlimited characters available to describe and set the tone for your groups).
- We also got a lot of positive feedback about the direction we are going with the moderation tools we tested in the beta and heard that they are a big time saver.
- At the same time, we also heard loud and clear from many of you about the concerns you had with the new design and that you don’t want a big change all at once, since that may be potentially disruptive to your groups (which is obviously not what we want).
Next Steps
We’re now going to take all of the feedback you have shared with us and the lessons we’ve learned and incorporate these things into the classic (or original) Groups product in an evolutionary way. In addition, since we’re no longer going to be doing further development on the current beta platform, we’re encouraging everyone who is currently using or testing the beta product to move back to the classic Groups product at their earliest convenience:
- To switch a Beta group back to a classic group, simply click the “Switch Back to Original Yahoo! Groups” link, which appears in the footer of every page of beta groups (if you’re the group owner).
- However, if your group was created as a beta group, this link does not appear. We will provide instructions on how to switch one of these groups to a classic group in the near future, stay tuned.
Thanks for taking the time to share your input on the Groups Beta!!

hi
To ALL WHO WISH TO MAKE GOOD MONEY,
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
Dear internet user :
Greetings! About two years ago, a friend came to me with a letter. She asked me to research the fact that this letter was indeed legal. I told my friend I would review it and get back to her. When I first read the letter my friend brought me, I thought it was some off-the-wall idea to make money. A week and a half later we met again at my home to discuss the letter. I told her I had taken the letter to the post office and they told me the letter she brought to me was 100% legal.
I was still curious about the letter, so my friend explained to me how it works. I thought it seemed like a long shot, so I decided against participating, but before my friend left I asked her to keep me updated on her results. About two months later, she called me to tell me she had received $800,000 in cash. I didn’t believe her, so she asked me to try this idea and find out for myself. I thought about it for a couple of days and decided I didn’t have anything to lose, so I asked her for a copy of the letter. I followed the instructions exactly, mailed 200 copies, and sure enough the money started coming in! It arrived slowly at first, but after about three weeks, I was getting more mail than I could open in a day! After about three months the money stopped coming. I kept a precise record of my earnings and in the end it totaled $978,493.00! I could hardly believe it. I met with my friend for lunch to find out exactly how it worked. She told me there are quite a few similar letters around, but this one is different because there are six names at the end of the letter, not five like some others. This fact alone results in your name being in far more returns.
By now you are surely curious to know what small change I made. If you sent a letter like this out, in order to be completely legal, you must actually sell something in the list; you must include these words, “Please put me on your mailing list” and include your address. This is the key to the program. The item you will receive for the dollar you send to six people below is the letter.
This system works if you will just try it. You must follow the simple instructions exactly, and in less than three months, you will receive over $800,000. Guaranteed!
1. Immediately send $1.00 to each of the six people on the list at the end of this letter. Wrap the dollar bill in a note saying,”Please add me to your mailing list and include your address.
2. Delete the name in the number one spot and move the others up one place (2 becomes 1, 3 becomes 2, etc.) Put your name in the sixth position.
3. Copy this article. Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible.
4. post at least 200 copies of the letter with your name and address in the sixth slot on message boards, news groups, chat rooms etc.. .
5. Keep a copy of this letter so you can use it a second time. When your name reaches #1, send out six more dollars and post your name at #6 to keep receiving money.
6. Note: This service is 100% legal. Refer to title 18, section 1302 and 1342 of the U.S. Postal and Lottery Laws.
How does it work? :
When you post 200 letters, it is estimated that at least 15 people
will respond and send you $1.00,you make $15.00
Those 15 post 200 letters each and 225 people send $1.00,you make $225.00
Those 225 post 200 letters each and 3,375 people send you $1.00,you make $3,375.00
Those 3,375 post 200 letters each and 50,625 people send you $1.00,you make $50,625.00
Those 50,625 post 200 letters each and 759,375 people send you $1.00,you make $759,375.00
At this point your name drops off the list, but so far you have received $813,615.00
Be sure to send $1.00 to each name below:
1. Gary L Henley 1112 East 8th Street Okmulgee, OK. 74447
2. Joline Verellen 4200 East M-36 Pinckney, IL 60171
3. Justin Whitmore 8817 W. Grand Ave. River Grove, IL 60171
4. Ray Smith 1825 Sylvan Ct. Sanford, NC 27330
5. Lance Duvall P.O. Box 93956 Lubbock, TX 79493
6. sarah vigliotti 33 cherry st. plymouth, ma 02360
GOOD LUCK to all and please play fairly and reap the huge rewards from this, which is tons of extra CASH.
By the way, please DON’T try to deceive people by posting the messages with your name in the list and not sending the CASH to the rest of the people already on the list, you will NOT get any. Always keep an eye on the newsgroups to make sure everyone is playing fairly. Remember, HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!!!!
Thanks
I wanted to migrate my accounts to Beta. How can I do that? I have been hunting the site for that, but have not found the way.
Please help.
Hi Denver, we did receive your request.
And yes, Eily is correct, your groups should have been switched. Please let me know if they have not been.
Hedda, I am not sure I am following but I’ll send you an email requesting more information.
Thanks!
Jami
I see the Beta Rich Text Editor link on our website when we want to post a message, and when I click on it the form changes to the Beta version. I am able to get the subject line in without a problem, but when I click in the text box, my entire browser shuts down.
I use Nestscape (current version) and my computer is healthy. Is it something I am doing or is it the browser, or am I actually trying to use a Beta command in a classic format? Ideas?
Thanks kindly,
Hedda
I thought all beta groups (well those that had requested to be changed back to classic) were going to be switched back yesterday? I’m still waiting……
i think everything yahoo groups do will be ok and we can renew our biz with them
hope i be lucky and get the updates
thanks

Hi:
I just wanted to make sure you guys received my request to switch my beta back to classic mode? My Yahoo! Group is 1country
Gordon replied to my question via the beta Yahoo! Groups yesterday and said that they’d hope to do the switch today, but I was just wondering if that is still going to happen? I need my calendar and poll features!
Thanks!
Denver
I’m going to miss the yahoo beta group,it had allot bonuses that classic group dose not have. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Robert
Hmm, never mind, I just tried it again & it worked this time.
I filled in the form too a couple of days ago & the same thing happened to me, the text boxes didn’t clear, the submit button greyed out, but nothing else happened, how can I also be sure that my group was submitted?
Nice work there guys!!
by arul vigg.
Thanks again, Jami.
Hi all –
It’s a little hard to see but after you submit your details the info clears as you mention and there’s a note above the form that says “Thank you for your comment”.
Sue, I can confirm we got your request. Bobbie, it appears we only received a request for one group – I’ll send you an email with the name.
Mellie – I am working to get answers to your questions now. I’ll post as soon as I know.
Thanks!
Jami
Jami,
I saw your message on YGOG and re-submitted the info above. This time when I clicked Submit the forms cleared, so I’ll assume the info “took” now.
Thanks.
How would I be able to tell whether the form I completed was actually submitted? I filled it out (twice) for two different Beta format groups, however, after I clicked on the [submit] button, the form didn’t clear even though the button greyed-out. Will we receive any sort of confirmation addressed to “owner” of the groups requesting to be reset to Classic format?
I have to say when I read this I thought “Ugh, I have to go back to Classic?”. I personally loved Beta (besides that whole not getting any email from my groups thing the past few days) and, to me, you guys did a great job with it and I really hope a lot of these features go over to “Classic” soon. Quick confirmation though, before I fill out that form, because we started as Beta— We’ve put a lot of work into our group (like many have), are we going to lose any of our information in the manual switch to “Classic”? And how long do we have to switch over?
Casey – You can determine whether or not your group is a beta or classic group by looking at the Yahoo! Groups logo in the upper left hand corner, if it is a beta it will indicate there.
Sue – There was indeed an issue with the form but it’s now working, please resubmit your details.
David – Thanks for your support!
Best,
Jami
I filled out the form and clicked the Submit button and nothing happened. I did it with both Firefox and MSIE and got the same response.
Anyone else having a problem?
Casey, look at the URL when you are on your group’s home page. If it is a Beta group, it will appear as http: //new.groups.yahoo.com/yourgroupname . If it is a Classic group, it will appear as
http: //groups.yahoo.com/group/yourgroupname . (Both without the space after http:)
I don’t know if my Groups are “BETA” or “CLASSIC”. When I look at the page footers for the groups, there is no option to switch to “CLASSIC”. I want to make sure I am not overlooking something. Is there another place on the pages that will provide this information.
Also, would it cause a problem to fill out the form to manually change my groups to “CLASSIC” if my group are already in that format. I dont want to lose my groups. Please help.
I’m sure you have made the right decision.
That’s what Betas are for.
Hope you can now attract the new customers and revenues you need, safe from the worry of impending technical meltdown.
It’s been worth it – thanks.
