  1. Justso says:

Thanks for bringing chat back. I used to love chatting with members of my group “back in the day”: Now, I have to ask if the “new” format is coming back. I really liked that and thought it was easier to use and brought the things I was looking for up front and I didn’t have to drill down to find them.

If the new format is optional those of us who want it should be able to use it. I missed it from the second it was gone.

Thanks for the chat… It is going to improve my group experience greatly!

  2. Jeff D says:

Thanks for the response. It must be the adult status, which is another issue I wish you would change. I hate how Yahoo just moves you without notice if someone posts a racy picture. Not only are we not notified, but then we have to hunt down the picture in a sea of pictures and figure out which one you had an issue with. I’ll try working again to get out of the Adult category because I really want chat back for my group. Thanks again.

  3. Doug says:

I am still trying to figure how this chat thing works!

    Respectfully, Doug

  4. kamaruddin says:

    thanks

  5. wasim hossain says:

@Jeff – Yes, chat might not be available in all groups. It’s enabled by default for all non adult groups.

  6. ernie says:

Donna is right, there should be a way to clear the chat history. anyway, does everyone see the chat history, or i’m the only one seeing that because i’m the moderator?

  7. Christian says:

What a dissapointment that the default is enabled!

If is is a good function groups will enable it.

Forcing is as enable shows Yahoo things it will not be adopted unless groups are tricked into using it.

  8. Carol B. says:

I agree with Curt. It would be great to see a number next to the Chat link, so we can see whether the room is occupied. It would be like our email showing how many unread messages we have.

Thank you for chat. I have tried it in my groups and like it very much.

  9. Donna says:

I don’t see any way to clear the chat history and our group would like to be able to clear the history daily.
Also, could there be some way to increase the font size?
Delighted to see chat back – but not sure our group will use it just yet.

  10. Sue says:

Thank you for returning the chat room. But would also like to know about ejecting, barring, and ignoring chatters. Also what about chat scripts?

  11. chris young says:

I’m lost here because I have no group so I’d probably only end up chatting with myself and that would only show that I really am insane!!!!!!!!!

  12. Tracy says:

Oh big deal…if you really want to make some of us happy, give us a choice and bring back the new updated layout!

  13. Curt says:

Thanks for the Chat feature. I wonder if you could put a counter on it so other members would know if someone was in the chatroom before we clicked on it ?
Thanks for your work, I appreciate you.

  14. Patty says:

How many people can chat at one time?

  15. Dr. S. Kristine James says:

There are no chat listings on any of my groups. How come?

  16. Y! Groups Team says:

@Jeff – Yes, chat might not be available in all groups. It’s enabled by default for all non adult groups.

  17. Carol R says:

Do you know if they are going to add other features to the room? We do 12 Step program meetings. If they are not going to add voice to the room, then at least if we had some marco features to put our format in – it would make things easier. Also be nice if we could have a way a person could come to chat on their cell phone.

Anyway, thanks for giving us the room back. We have really missed it.

  18. Theresa says:

It doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve typed a message in the box indicated (where it says “type message here”. I hit “enter”, and nothing happens. My message in the typing box disaappears, and does not appear in the area top area where the chat should appear. What am I doing wrong?

  19. Coly Hope says:

Thanks for bringing the chat function back. It will be very useful for my groups.

  20. Marina says:

Thank you for this interesting addition. I own a very large group, with more than 3,000 members, enabling chat for all members would mean primordial chaos. Is it possible to create separate ‘rooms’ on specific topics?
For large groups I think it would be helpful to have a feature that somehow restricts or regulates access to chat.
    Marina
    P.S.
    Sorry for my clumsy English

  21. Jeff D says:

I just checked and it is not present in one of the groups that I own, but it is in another. Are there certain restrictions that some groups are not getting chat back? I am so excited. We also used to chat a lot more when it was available.

    Jeff

  22. dineshvalji says:

    give me good things

  23. Thanks says:

Thanks. Though next time a quick note that would tell us it was coming back would be nice. Mushroom treatment is bad PR.

  24. jane doe says:

Thank you for bringing the chat back.
at least once a month one or 2 members would mention how much fun we had chatting ‘back when’ and hoped it would eventually come back.

    I am excited! Thank you!!!!!
    Jane

  25. Y! Groups Team says:

@Marenda – Yes, only moderators and group owners can moderate the chatroom. You have the power to block/ban the users that are causing trouble.

  26. Just tested the chat feature in my group. Love it. I have a small group of writers who share critiques and this is a great way to have discussion about a critique without have to post endless messages that we don’t need to have archived. And we even get smilies!!!

    Thanks!

  27. Marenda says:

What? no voice chat nor video? Also as group owners can we moderate the chatroom? Like muting text or voice of members or booting/banning them from the room if they are causing trouble?

Or is this just simply boring text with no controls for moderators?
