I’m Layla, the new community manager for Yahoo! Groups, Answers, and Delicious. As a longtime Groups member, owner, and moderator, I’m thrilled that I can be the liaison between this great community and Yahoo!.

Delays at /caravansarai/ of between 15 minutes and 48 hours, and the order of messages is also shuffled, messing with group dynamics.
We have a complementary group at Facebook and those who still have access can always fall back on an old usenet newsgroup.
For many groups it is over 50 hours with no posts or one post then several lost.
Now approaching 24 (TWENTY-FOUR) hours delay in posting! We might as well shut down our groups if we can’t post in them…

Yesterday it took a message 15 hours to get posted. Something I posted earlier today STILL hasn’t come through. How long will it be until it is fixed? We CAN’T run the groups if no messages are coming through.
do you trace source code to find problem links ?
do you write a menu driven style ?

Any chance of getting an update from YGroups as to how long the message delay problem is likely to last? Checking in at the EmailListManagers group it seems to a system wide problem

my group has been a new hope for many people and a new start for others.

Can we get one page that can be a go to place when problems arise on your group sites.
Not a Yahoo Answers, or a Group Page , Blog or whatever…just a FAQ page that can be updated so groups can know what is going on.
Today, we have had 2 hour plus delays, I have visited all of these sites to get someone to help, including Customer Care several times…
Still there is no info on what is going on,,,,
Goggle has a known issue page right out side of your groups Dashboard so moderators know what issues to look out for.

Yahoo could scroll info through the prompt on most homepages so everyone could adjust their posts or workload according to the problems at hand.
Just tired of chasing info… it should be easier.

I own and or moderate a number of groups. I would like to know why a very large number of our Members with AOL E-mail Addresses are bouncing or being refused by their AOL E-mail Servers.

We are having three different yahoo group. Is it possible to create a new yahoo group so that any mail send to that yahoo group is distributed to all three yahoo group?
Also only the members of these groups should be able to post and no one else should be able to post to this new group.

@Santosh Thanks for the warm welcome. Unfortunately at this point you cannot control the time you receive the Daily Digest. As for your other questions, I don’t really know what CRFL stands for, I am not very technical, but I would recommend you send your question to Groups About Groups and you might be able to find some good solutions http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/original/ownmod/starting/ideas-01.html
& Sue Pollock: I checked with Customer Care for you, and I am afraid I have bad news. The issues you mentioned are indeed amongst the list of known issues and our Product team is working on them, however given the list of other priorities– it would be a while before they are fixed. —at this point I would recommend you write to Groups about Groups about it and someone might be able to send you some useful suggestions: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/original/ownmod/starting/ideas-01.html
@ Keylly Barron: I am not sure what you mean by cascading messages, but I wanted to make sure you are aware that you have the option to view your messages by topic? Simply go to your home screen, click on messages, then next to Messages: Simplify | Expand click on (Group by Topic)
@ Don Moon: Customer care can easily take care of this issue with you. Simply contact them with your group name and explain the situation, if they are unable to help ping me here and I’ll follow up for you

Why can’t I do a search within a group? For example, If I search for “Guillemot” in the EBB (Birding) Group, I get ads and other web sites unrelated to EBB.

I would like to see additional communication. Removal of groups with no explanation to the group owners is unacceptable. An open source project has two of our support groups deleted recently, so far without explanation from Yahoo.
The issue has been reported, and escalated, and while Yahoo committed in the support e-mail a response within 24 hours of that escalation, it took more than two days to get a canned “we can do anything we want” answer. (see KMM111721559V8336L0KM)
Why was there no communication to the group admins? These were important support forums for our project. Do you believe unexplained removal (no contact to any of the group admins) is appropriate? Why should any open source project trust Yahoo at this point, given the ability to destroy the entire project history without explanation?
Layla, glad you are here. I have been struggling with changing the listing type of our group. Yahoo has it listed as adult content. It is not. We are a group of boat owners that restrict our conversation to boating topics. When originally formed we were listed under recreation and boating. What changed this. Hope you can help.

I’m wondering why the forum conversations aren’t cascaded instead of each post & reply being a separate listing? Most forums cascade replies under the original posting so we don’t have to hunt for replies to certain posts.

Hi Layla and welcome….you will be a welcome relief for many of us in the way of prompt answers. My group is bombarded with what I refer to as alien characters. Most of my members use the fully featured email from the group and as such, regardless of the font we use, we end up with small, unidentifiable characters in many of our messages. I have contacted Yahoo Customer Care numerous times and their last response was it was OUR issue to fix, unless we switched to plain text messages. By alien characters, many of the fonts are transposed to what appears to be a webding font, and they make the messages extremely hard to read. If you could provide an answer or desirable work-around for this issue, that would be fantastic. As we were told my Yahoo, it had to do with each member’s HTML encoder embedded in the email program. Thanks for any help you can offer as I’m sure we’re not the only group experiencing these little things.

thought yahoogroups had been hacked. Thanks for
immediately informing us.
We have always had ‘moderated mail setting for all
the members & moderators of our group. Being
a group of the A.A. fellowship, we have a set of
rotating moderators. We have had ‘flaming’ in the
past. This prompted us to have moderated messages.
We have opted for Plain Text mode and do not allow
file attachments. But I notice that in the text files,
all “extra” spaces to the left of the CRLF, are getting
reduced to a single space. Thus we cannot have new
paragraphs, starting with a few blank spaces on the
left. Is it possible for us to change the font & right
margin of the Text file ?
How do I change the ‘time of delivery’ of the Daily Digest ?
