Missing Groups Restored

In an effort to tackle spammers, we’ve deleted millions of spam groups in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, because of a bug, on Monday morning thousands of recently created legitimate groups were deleted along with the spam groups.

All of these groups have been restored and should now be accessible.  Thank you for your patience while we sorted out the issue and restored your groups.

If you are able to access your group (by using the URL) but do not see it on your “My Groups” page, try running the membership wizard (instructions can be found here) to add it to your “My Groups” page.

However, if you are still having problems finding your groups or are experiencing any other issues, please contact Customer Care for help:

Thanks Melissa for the update and confirmation
that it was a bug that caused these sudden deletions.

I lost 2 groups, one of which reappeared today, only
just discovered it was back ,after reading a message
in a moderators group and found another owner’s
group was back or not actually gone, just hidden.

My other group, does not appear to be back, but I
recreated that one ,with a slightly different url as it
was only a couple of hours old .

    Spammers are very annoying .

P.S. others still missing groups.might like to browse their my
groups index or search for their groups as mine still appeared
in the index ,but were not clickable .

Our group (RenewYourMind) is not restored as of this post. I’ve submitted a tech request (assuming this is the proper protocol) but I noted I was able to search for & find my group… It’s just that the links go nowhere? Can this group still be restored or will we have to start anew?

I set up a group about 2 weeks ago…. Everything was fine… over the labor day weekend I went to my group only to find that it was deleted… I questioned Yahoo and the gave me a bunch of BULL that it was offensive… I sure would like to know what a group about select kit cars Zipper Lakesters was offensive…. Obviously Yahoo isnt going to help me resolve the issue… So yesterday I set up another group very similar… Everything looked fine until I tried to post a message on the message board… and nothing shows up…. I get the message sent to my email but I can read any posted message on the actual club message board….. Im not inexperienced…. this is my 5th group and have been dealing with YAHOO GROUPS for over 10 years……..
    DISGUSTED with this service…….

  29. Melissa Daniels said,

    @Richard King,
Your group has been restored– this was part of the bug and was accidentally restricted/deleted. All should be back to normal now.

My group hasn’t disappeared, it’s just missing some important services. The Management page shows no activity data available, which means I’m not able to search membership records when considering new applicants. Our home page also shows no new activity in the past seven days, which is clearly incorrect as they are on the most recent messages page itself. Not sure if this is related to the groups difficulties. Any news on the upgrading of our search engine??

  31. Cinthia said,

    September 12, 2009 @ 1:33 pm

Carole, I am experiencing a similar difficulty with my group (and it is not even a group in English, but in Spanish).

The group’s main page says there has been no activity within 7 days, and tough we have been not very active in the past weeks, there have been a few messages including 6 within the past few weeks. I have also tried to sent messages to my group either by e-mail and directly from the web and the messages do not appear and if I try to reply to any group’s messages from the web I receive a reply that there is an error because the message can not be accessed.

So, Tech Support, please help to solve this issue and soon!

  34. Karen said,

    Another strange phenomenon:

Sometimes I am logged in, but when I go to the HOME page on one of the groups that is having a problem, I see the JOIN THIS GROUP option. When I check the upper left corner, it does show my name (ie, I am indeed logged in). When I refresh, it recognizes me as a group member and owner/moderator.

I created a group a few days ago. Sometimes, the group url brings up the group – and sometimes, it does not. This is true on different computers, with different browsers, and at various times over the last three days.

I invited one member to join, and another person got the group URL to bring up the Join page, and joined, after hitting Refresh on her browser a few times. She successfully posted one message. But, all three of us continued to have the “intermittent” experience with the group – it seemed to exist – and not. We called it “the incredible winking group”.

Today, just now, I can bring up the group URL, but selecting certain functions in Management gets me a Group Not Found message. Hitting F5 on the browser, or backing up and trying the same function again in a minute or so, sometimes brings up the function, but usually not.

I am afraid to continue building the group until all functions work reliably.

Well, thank you for fixing things for yahoo groups. My group and other groups are working better.

    I have a userability question.
what is going to happen to yahoo group applications
It seems like no one around yahoo has any answers. I guess because they are in development, you can not make the group applications public to the internet, not just within yahoo. But, that would be cool.
with yql, pipes, search monkey, etc.applications if their view settings could be made open to the internet could awaken strengthen groups. I like that applications can be private within the group, or private to the group or public. But, it would be cool to apply yql on yahoo groups. Many groups are very specific or cater to a unique taste that needs specific applications

Preferred emial used for freecycle is liavoutourides@hotmail.co.uk

    Hi,

I joined 2 London, UK groups in early July; FreecycleBarnet and Enfield_Freecycle. Up until a week or so ago all was fine. Then I discovered a virus (trojan) on my laptop and have been dealing with that, as such my online activity has been limited. Might I add, this is the first time I’ve experienced a virus like this after countless years of using the internet.

I’ve continued to recieve Barnet daily digests during this time, but due to refraining from being online, I’ve only read the digest in my email rather than through my groups. I’ve since sorted out my virus problem (an arduous task) and noticed that I hadn’t recieved any daily digests regarding Enfield, nor have I had any emails in my Yahoo mail.

Having just tried and failed a number of times to rejoin/locate Enfield_freecycle, It now shows as a group when I go to my groups, But I’m still being told I am locked out and need to rejoin.

Both groups show ‘no activity’, although when clicked on I can go to the messages for barnet.

I must ask this as it is a concern, (especially with my recent virus), given the cause of the current problem with yahoo groups is a virus, couldn’t this virus be passed on to us, the users who are viewing, sending and possibly recieving mail through it?

Good luck with sorting this out

    Lia
