Changes to the Yahoo! header
The next time you visit http://groups.yahoo.com or your group’s home page you might notice that things look a little different. Starting today, all of the properties across the Yahoo! network are switching over to a new header. This new header reflects our new, purple logo, and, provides users with faster access to some of the most trafficked properties on the network.
Previously, the header looked like this (account drop-down shown):
But now, you’ll notice it looks like this:
With the new header, the links to “sign out” and “help” have been moved over to the left (1). Clicking on the “Hi, [Your name]” on the left hand side will still produce the account drop-down. This gives you quick access to your profile, contacts and account info.
Additionally, we’ve added in a few quick links to other popular properties across the web. From left to right, the new links take you to: the Yahoo! homepage ,your Yahoo! Mail account, your my.yahoo.com page, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, and Yahoo! Sports. (2)
We hope you enjoy the new header, and, the new purple look!

Well, the new toolbar is fine but I have not felt a need to really use it.
Yahoo has so many different internal aspects: News, Sports, Groups, Profiles
The header is cool but it would be great if yahoo groups was better emphasized. Yahoo groups has a ton of internal information. File sections link sections, etc. That stuff needs to be searchable. It may seem to some that I am trying to knock down yahoo if they come upon my comment but I just think the internal networking of the
I personally like yahoo groups and I feel that yahoo groups should be a better product and if yahoo would have spent more time working on its functionality in time now gone, it would have beena big driver to yahoo news, and sports and etc.
I read that yahoo is working on a “search experience” which I think is a great idea. The human computer interfacing is very simplistic today and needs an upgrade. But, while yahoo is working on that overall internet interface, what about groups.
I am glad that groups kept running without a hitch, but what about group applications. It seems like that project is dead or stalled or something.
Personally it would help yahoo groups out if applications were put on the update lists but more than that,
yahoo has
yql, which i love,
pipes, which i love
but an ingredient is missing.
Yahoo groups could fill that void.
YQL has insert, execute, and delete functions as well as the select statements. Y! group applications should have a smooth way to use those functions for each application present.
Pipes has a module called web service that uses a json output to a service to return informaiton. This module should also be able to work with Y! group applications as web services.
With the file sections of a group for scripting and YUI content, and an integrated pipes and yql with Y! group applications you provide a place for developers totally within yahoo to do all sorts of things with much ease.
Now, I will admit, I could have much ignorance concerning the possibility and probability of the aforementioned working, but it would be cool if pipes and yql could offer some examples of how to work with Y! group applications.
But, I think if they could it would be an extremely helpful tool, at least for me.

These continual changes to the sign in access are very aggravating. please decide on a layout and stay with it! Many of my members are not very web or computer savy, and my email fills up with ‘how do we sign in messages’ everytime you move it!
I personally liked the mail link on the left.

Too many changes. Not sure if it’s something I did and keep looking for icon to change it back. Need Groups on the favorites list. Get immediate sign-in for yahoo mail. Don’t need to wade thru other stuff. Take off or move down Popular Seraches. Thanks.

Melissa, why do I have to continue writing you every other day about mistakenly putting our group in “Adult” when we are not an Adult group. I would hope that our active membership of 16,000 would prompt you to make this a priority. You had been changing it back every day, now it doesn’t happen. Please email me offlist. I cannot get satisfaction from the almost daily mails I write to groupsabuse.

I like the new purple logo, and the header, except for the fact that I keep accidentally signing out because you moved the mail link to the other side LOL.

Dear Gordon and Melissa,
once again i ask.
What is the status of fixing message search.
It’s been broken forever and you said it would be fixed a long time ago.
But it ain’t.
Thanks,

I wish you people would leave well enough alone. You work on changes that are not needed or wanted and when that happens other things get messed up. Quit playing games with all this cutesy kiddie stuff. Only idiots care what color the header is and and other things like that. When you move buttons you only confuse and confound many people. Moving buttons and adding color is no needed. Give us frames in the groups to make things easier when we want to go to another area of a group instead of having to constantly be scrolling up and down to go to other areas of a group. The new buttons are a waste because all of that is available in the toolbar. These things are not used very much so yahoo has put them in our faces to get more ad money from the extra pages newbies will be clicking on. Quit playing games with us and leave things alone. Right now one of my groups has disappeard from my drop down list and I’m shown as not being a member. I did reapply for membership but the owner is slow to take care of things in that group so I sit and wait because of somne idiots stupid idea to give us unneeded buttons and ubwanted color. I wonder how many others are having probs with their groups now?

hi Melissa,
Still fiddling, I see.
What does it matter if Yahoo logo is purple, , pink ,
red, green or spotted ?
I did notice the Yahoo splash ad also has additional colour,
which is probably why Messenger takes long to load .
The Number one Ptoblem in Yahoo Groups is Spam
and the number of Spam Infested, Abandoned Groups.
I am happy to devote several volounteer hours a day to clean
up these spam infested groups and have previously offered
my services to the Yahoo Groups Team.
The offer remains open .
Every Time there is a massive spam attack on Yahoo Groups,
the groups encounter glitches, delays and problems.
This is is a top priority matter.
You are welcome to contact me privately about this.

Hi, I run a private Yahoo Group. Currently the header is not showing the new header that you show with your post. And today, after uploading a photo to one of our albums, I am getting a “connection refused” message when I try to look at the new photo or the albums or the Photo link.

Stop changing things. Stop moving familiar UI elements clear to the other side of the screen. People need familiarity. Either stop changing things or code options so that people can put things back the way it was. The majority of people want it back the way it was for familiarity and efficiency reasons, yet yahoo randomly changes the UI anyway. What does that tell you. Software arrogance. Yahoo, if you don’t believe me, then where’s your survey so that people can vote. If the majority of people do not want major UI items such as sign-in moved clear over to another place, then how can you justify such “changes.”

When I try to log in and enter password, it prompts back to the main sign in screen. Cant access at all.
Terry said,

The reason why you cant log in to Yahoo Groups,
Dee is most probably the latest spam attack
on Yahoo Groups.
For reasons known only to themselves, the Yahoo
Groups Team refuses to acknowledge each spam
attack or to take up offers from Group owners that
will reduce or eliminate Yahoo Group Spam .

I just upgraded to the most recent firefox build. Your front pages on YahooGroups shows properly, but if go deeper into the group, messages, files, etc the page is way too wide for my browser, and the header is to the far left and the content to the far right. I assume a css problem, but would love to know how I can fix this.
