Bug Update (7/8/2009)
Update (7/9 4:30 pm PDT; 11:30 pm GMT): Pending notifications and email commands should now be going working normally again (although unlike messages these notifications and commands are not queued, so ones that did not go out during that period will not do so; the implication is that pending messages and members during that time will have to be approved on the web and those trying to subscribe/unsubscribe/changes settings via email will have to resend their requests).
Update (7/9 10:15 am PDT; 7/9 5:15 pm GMT): We’re looking into reports of email notification of pending members/messages/photos (as well as the confirmation messages for email commands like subscribe and unsubscribe) not being delivered.
Update (7/8 10:30 pm PDT; 7/9 5:30 am GMT): The logs problem has again been resolved and the backlog has been cleared.
In the last six weeks we have posted on the blog about a number of bugs. Here is a quick summary of the status of each of these issues:
BUGS STILL OPEN:
- Delays in Processing Activity Logs: This problem was resolved at the end of last week but returned (though on a much smaller scale) yesterday morning. The good news is that the queues are now headed in the right direction (in other words, the backlog is getting smaller), but we are currently still running about 10 hours behind.
- Message Search: Over the last two weeks, progress on the message search bug has been gated by the logs issue, both because the new message search system is dependent on “the queue” working correctly and because the same team is responsible for both systems. So as soon as the logs issue is fully resolved, this team will begin to migrate more groups on to the new message search system.
- Groups Being Recategorized as Adult: Despite a great deal of effort, we have not yet discovered the cause of the bug that is causing groups to be wrongly misclassified as adult, so we are still working on this problem. In the mean time, we have halted all advertising in adult groups until the issue is resolved.
- Text Disappearing in Some Messages Replies: This problem is being caused by the way some versions of Outlook (as well as Juno Mail) are formatting replies to messages (they are inserting the text of the reply in the wrong place, which is causing the script in Groups which deletes olds headers and footers to delete this text as well).. We have developed a potential fix that we are currently testing in QA, but users can also address the problem themselves by changing their subscription from “fully featured” to “traditional”.
NOTE: You can find information, including suggested work arounds, for other known issues here:

RESOLVED BUGS
- Program Initialization/Temporarily Unavailable Errors: This problem has been resolved.
- Problems with Photos Uploads (50% Failure Rates): This problem has been resolved.
- Moderator Unable to Change Home Page Photos: This problem has been resolved.
- Yahoo! Mail UK Delivery Issues: This problem has been resolved.
- Messages Not Wrapping on the Preview Page: This problem has been resolved.
- New Attachments Feature Disabled (or settings changing): This problem has been resolved.
- Verizon & Comcast Delivery Issues: Not actually a Yahoo! Groups bug (the delivery issues were on their end), but based on the fact that we are no longer getting frequent reports of delivery problems to these ISPs, we believe the problem has been resolved.

Not sure the Yahoo mail delivery issue has been resolved. I’m a moderator for several groups and noticed that, overnight and this morning, I’m not getting any MODERATE: emails for any groups. I’m having to check my groups on the My Yahoo Groups page and see what messages are waiting on there.

I’m having the same problem as Trisha. I double checked my settings and such and just am not receiving a single MODERATE: email from my group.

I am still getting no notifications either on my freecycle groups. I have to go to the groups page to see if there are pending messages and members. This started yesterday and still continues.
Any Time Frame on when it will be resolved?

Just had one email come through for a member approval. Fingers crossed that it’s working again.

I just got a pending message notification for one of my groups. Hopefully this means the problem has been resolved? Or at least there is some progress being made. Thought I’d pass the information along. (pending member notices were not affected, only pending messages)

Would this also cause “weird” characters to display in either new posts or replies made to posts? Most of the “weird” characters appear in front of and at the end of the ” character if used in a message. (See messages 686 & 687 in the LMR_Narrowbanding group as examples of what I’m attempting to describe)

How do I get the YAHOO ad to stop blocking the pictures in some of my e-mails? I have tried everything I can think of to move them out of the way, but nothing works. I find this very irritating when it also blocks text so that some of my messages are not readable at all.

Any movement on the group search issue? It was supposed to be resolved a couple months ago and still nothin’… it’s becoming increasingly frustrating, and I need to know if I need to be looking at moving my Yahoo groups to another service if this just isn’t gonna be fixed.

When I click Edit the category of my group,
it does not actually give me the option to edit the category of my group,
within Management options. It just redisplays same page.

Some spammers have been taking advantage of the fact that non-yahoo users cannot change their email preferences to prevent group moderators from directly adding users’ email addresses to their yahoo groups. (I tried to change it but get an error message.) And it seems that for some reason the default setting is to allow group owners to both invite and add any email address to their groups directly (and to start receiving group messages), without even sending a confirmation email first.
I reported this issue to Yahoo! Customer Care team a couple of times. The spamming groups got shut down, but the spammers just open other groups and start sending spam again.
It has been going on for months.
I hope that you guys can at least change the default email preferences setting for non-yahoo email addresses.

You say ‘only Customer Care can actually provide support.’
will Customer Care do anything about Yahoo Group Spam
and what are they doing about it please ?
There are many hundreds of spam messages appearing
daily in unmoderated Yahoo Groups where I am not a
moderator, what is being done about these spammers ,
why are they still in the Yahoo Groups ?
I have reported them as spam when they attempt to post in
my moderated groups , but they are still active all over
Yahoo Groups .
Terry said,
July 19, 2009 @ 8:03 pm
there is no edit your post button, so posted the
correction here.
perhaps the reason for the flood of spam ,is that
Yahoo does not mind spam existing on their servers ,
because it gives them increased traffic and are able
to charge higher rates for their advertisers ?

My text is still disappearing when I write a reply in my one group. It doesn’t do that in my other groups. I changed it back to traditional thinking, finally, you found a fix for it. Nope, it still happens every time I write. I have to remove the previous persons post to make mine to show up.

Is anyone else continuing to have problems with Comcast users not receiving YG e-mail? This has been a problem on our group since June 29th with a growing number of users reporting problems. There have been occasional spurts for a few hours on a couple of days and then the problem repeats. Comcast states it’s not on their side and Yahoo Groups has not responded yet. Over 100 of our more than 600 subscribers are Comcast users. The blog states this was not a YG problem and it was apparently resolved 2 weeks ago. Note, these same subscribers can post just not receive group mail. Posting to a blog is not my preferred way of seeking assistance but our group is getting a bit desperate for a resolution from either Comcast or Yahoo Groups. Thanks, Gary

You had my group on a list to move back to a non-Adult category every day until your glitch is fixed. Now that’s no longer being done and I have to write you daily to move my group back to the proper category. (Usually a 24 hour lag time before it is done.) Until this is fixed, will I again have to write you every day about this?

@Dan,
Your groups are still being moved every day– just moved it again. If you’re still having trouble, please email me directly at yahoogroups [at] yahoo-inc [dot] com as I am the one who moves the groups. (Typically they’re moved by around 10am PT).

I just tried to “add a member” instead of “invite a member” and I am continually sent to the http://www.yahoo.com site. Frustrating. So I tried to submit it myself and change the message to the person I wanted to be a member by editing. (I have done this before) When I changed it I tried to add member on the message and AGAIN was forwarded to the http://www.yahoo.com site. I submitted it without making her a member. Anyone else seen this problem?

GroupMod said,

August 16th already and still no fix. Our yahoo group members depend on the search function very heavily. Oddly enough, Yahoo, you are still failing us. I think I am starting to see why more people move to using Google each day.
No updates in over a month that I can see? When do you all plan to fix this? You say that the same team is doing more than one task, I know nothing about programming or scripting or whatever but honestly you mean to tell me that Yahoo can’t afford to hire a larger team to get this resolved? I’m looking into other options as the owners I mod for want to move soon. This is really old now. Months is way too long. Can we at least get another update? This is getting REALLY frustrating!

my group is still being categorised in the adult section, as a result this means that the group feed is not available on other sites and search references.
It’s affecting the group immensely, it also means that new members are avoiding joining the group and membership growth is stagnating.
when this going to be resovled once and for all, it’s happened at least 4 times this year.
Mary said,
September 9, 2009 @ 10:33 am
I must agree with Adriano. My list is not even appearing in any section though it is checked to do so. Stagnating membership is not good for a group. I contacted Yahoo about this via the website. I got one reply that said it was being forwarded to the proper group for further investigation. That was on August 16 which is over three weeks ago. No further communication. I was also referred to this website which has had no updates in weeks.

Now… to Melissa Daniels, Gordon, or whoever with YAHOOgroups…
Could you please give an update on the solution to the Group Search problem.
This problem began in March 2009.
I belong to 4 groups. I cannot search anything since March 9th-16th, 2009, depending on which of the 4 groups, I try to search.
This blog on the Group search topic was started on March 17, 2009.
It is now October 24, 2009
This problem has been ongoing for over 7 months now. When will the problem be fixed…. or as you say “migrated” to the working system?
Why would it take 7 months or longer to fix the problem?
Thank you.
