Colbert wants you– to support our Troops!

Did you know that there are more than two thousand groups on Yahoo! Groups dedicated solely to the men and women in the Armed Forces? These include groups dedicated to the men and women in all four branches of the US Armed Forces, groups for Blue Star Moms, and much, much, more.

We know that keeping our troops safe is something many of you find near and dear, which is why Yahoo! recently teamed up with Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report and the philanthropic organization, DonorsChoose.org to lend a hand to the children and families of those who support our troops.

Stephen Colbert, DonorsChoose.org and Yahoo! are working together to give the children of military parents a hand in their education and in their communities.

As part of the “Support Our Troops” campaign, launched in partnership with Colbert, DonorsChoose.org is running a friendly competition among the Armed Forces — Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard – to see which branch’s supporters can have the biggest impact on classrooms. As of today, we have raised more than $130,000, and the Army is barely hanging on to the lead (check out the leaderboard as the tension builds in real-time).

Literally hundreds of projects have been submitted by teachers at military-serving schools across the country in an effort to show students (and parents!) how proud we all are.

If you want to lend a hand to the DonorsChoose.org campaign click here to donate. Can’t? Show your solidarity by dressing up your Avatar on Yahoo! like Stephen Colbert, or, accessorize your own avatar with things like an eagle, bear, Colbert Nation hat, Che Colbert t-shirt, fireplace, and a desk, and help us spread the word about the Support Our Troops campaign.

Also, be sure to check out video clips from the Colbert Report, including one where Colbert shaves his head in support of the troops!

Thanks for your support!

Well, this is a good measure but in all earnest, more than ever yahoo group messages need to be present within yahoo profiles updates.
When groups gets its messages hooked up yahoo groups will see more action.
I also think yahoo groups beta applications need to be added to the update stream. I don’t even get emails when they are used.

I logged in tonight and four of my groups are gone!!!
One I had since 2005 and had almost 4,000 members!
This is crazy. There is no reason what so ever for them to be missing or deleted. I am the only owner/mod of these groups so I know noone but yahoo could have done this.
This is crazy. 4,000 members.. gone and it was a resource group. It had no adult stuff nothing bad, no spam nothing.

I am a new member in need and overwhelmed by all the info and instructions and the unending text. Not a good thing for someone on the edge.

    Hi Melissa,

Have you noticed that it seems that the more Yahoo! tries to “upgrade” and “fix” things the more unhappy the group owners and moderators and members get? The quality of the experience keeps going down and the “service” keeps getting worse. Heck, I’ve been waiting between 6 months and a year for the message archive search feature on my Yahoo! Group to be fixed after Yahoo! did some sort of poorly planned “upgrade” that trashed the feature; despite repeated promises nothing ever gets fixed and now “Customer Support” doesn’t even bother to respond to inquiries about it since apparently you guys have no way to figure out how to fix it (?). Do us all a favor and ask the powers to be to roll things back 6 months to a year and most of us would be happier. If Yahoo! keeps this up eventually Google or somebody else will step in and take it all away from you!

    Best,

    Casimir
