“View All” of your group’s photos at once!
If you’ve ever gone into one of your groups and wished you could view all of the photos in all of the albums at once, you’re in luck. Starting today, when you click on the “photos” link within your group you’ll notice a new link at the top of the page that says “View All Photos.”
This feature will display all photos for that group, 50 images at a time. If your group has more than 50 images, you can flip between the pages using the “previous” and “next” links at the top of the page.
Once in “View All” mode you can sort by “Photo Name,” “Creator,” and “Last Modified,” which is the default viewing option.
Want to revert to the album format? Just click on the “Thumbnail” link back up at the top to switch back.
Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Great stuff! Thanks so much. I like the attention that Y! Groups is getting. Seems like it has gotten a more attention in recent months. This is one example.

View ALL photos, 50 photos at a time.
So it’s not ALL photos then is it?

hi this is Nubia
i will add a comment
this is nice yes
but it will be more nice if my 24500 members will be able to see the mails properly
i receive daily around 25 complains of members saying they can’t see properly the mails
and i must spend my time to explain this is not because of us, but because yahoo put by default mode “fully feature” to all new members instaed of traditionnal and how to change this
it will be nice yahooo undestand this mode “fully featured” is not suitable for groups who post grafic and images
the info of the group appear in the middle of the mails and hide the pictures the members can’t see them !!!!
yahoo should allow each group owner to choose in the option of the groups “taditionnal” mode or “fully featured” mode for his group
THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM
i am sure my members will prefer to see the mails properly than 50 images in same time in the image section of the group !!!
regards
Nubia

@Simon,
By View All it’s all photos in your group, regardless of their album. Since some groups have literally hundreds of images (some thousands) we didn’t want to slow down your experience on groups by forcing you to wait for the page to load so we condensed the page display to 50 images at a time.
The View All feature is beneficial to people looking for a specific photo but can’t remember what album it’s in, or, for people who don’t want to poke through several albums at a time.

@Nubia,
Rather than having to repeatedly email users about the Traditional vs Fully Featured settings you could try including instructions in your group’s Welcome Message to prevent further headache/frustration on your behalf.

I do like this option, but one thing I really like about the photo section is the slideshow option…will that option become available with the View All option, too?

Any chance that we can get a patch to allow moderation of comments to the photos?
We moderate all our messages to prevent profanity, etc going out to the group since we’ve a few underage members. But there is no way to moderate comments left in the photo area of the group.
BTW; on a different subject, why are we seeing delays of hours in messages being recieved for moderation and then hours for the approved posts to actually go out to the group?

Melissa…
It would really be wonderful if the YG team would concentrate the majority of their efforts and talent on improving the fundamental elements and basic functionality of Groups – just little things like improving the overall consistency of service, network stability and reliability, the speed of mail delivery to both the web site of each group AND to individual member email addresses, reducing the delays between the time a message is posted by a member (or, a request to join a group is made), received by a moderator and approved, and, the time the message (or approved join request) actually gets posted to the web site and delivered to member email boxes (or the new member has been added to the group). This – IMHO – should be the primary focus of the YG Team at the moment….improvements like photo access and display and most other non-essential “extras” can wait. Thank you for your serious consideration of this suggestion.

Hi melissa
since yahoo introduced this fully feature option i added a notice in my welcome mail and all members receive it
but we have to keep in mind many members are lazy, or even don’t understand the procedure or what we talk about !
or some don’t read welcome mails until the end
they come to receive mails and are not expert in groups
i post a notice with this procedure this every 2 weeks, and even this everyday members ask me why !
the solution would be we choose the options for our groups
thanks

I wish the team would fix existing problems (message search, message delays, and the stored PLUS email attachments that everyone so desperately wants) BEFORE adding new gimmicks and potential new issues.

Good going Yahoo Groups team , and thanks for the updates.
As a moderator who has been waiting for groups to get more attention, I am very happy.
I have to admit, yahoo is closing geocities, and while I know geocities is definitely not a top property for yahoo, and I know yahoo wants to focus on its paid web hosting service, it would be good if an application section was made that allowed for groups to host public files. I like that files security doesn’t go past members. Groups are designed to be collectives, but i know you guys are working with applications and think it would be good if you added some sort of hosting capability to it.
I can’t wait for groups to join in to yahoo profiles. I think it will help a lot, but please don’t put groups in yahoo profiles unnotified. You did not blog about 360 being added to profiles. I think yahoo groups deserves the posting. I hope too that moderators have added sharing possibilities for their groups in the update stream.
a regular user should be able to notify if they join, post a message or reply to a message, though you guys should add post a file, add or create database, or upload an image. Groups have a lot of functionality which would really be present on the update stream, though the big three are joining, make and reply to message.
I think moderators should be able to show added members, and in the near but not to far future set an umbrella control. Meaning, if for whatever reason a moderator does not want a groups messages public, they should be able to set that over all members, so even if a member allows ANYONE to view replies and made messages with groups, if replies or messages are made in a group that the moderator has set as CONNECTIONS ONLY, it overrides the the group members. Though, I think this needs a lot of deliberation, so I say this should be in the future. But moderators should be able to show added members now,
lastly, I like the view all photos.:) it is well designed.

Want to revert back to the album format?
Sorry for the pedantry Melissa, but your statement above is grammatically incorrect! The mistake is very common these days, but you don’t “revert back”, just “revert” – the additional word “back” is superfluous. It’s what’s known as a tautology. Another common howler is “reflect back” – just “reflect” on its own is all you need! Apologies again, but it jars the eye!

This new feature is very well thought out and works very well, thank you for this feature.
You could add a full page photo option for the photo section. Some photos would be better viewed on a full page. Is this option do-able?
Thanks for the hard work to emprove our viewing pleasure’s.

I don’t want to be able to see all my group’s photos at once, I would just like to be able to arrange the albums in folders so that it would be easier for my members to find the photos they want to look at. It used to be like that in the past, I had taken a lot of trouble to organise my group photos and then you ruined it all when you took away this facility during some “improvements” that I never wanted.

Can’t get photos to upload – basic uploader won’t come up at all and smaller one pix feature won’t upload the pix after the info put in. Tried it on three different computers, and it doesn’t work for me. What do I do?

Hi Mellisa! Sorry to be a bother, I love this new feature – but will we ever get subfolders in the photos section? I don’t know where to go to request features. Does anyone else want subfolders back in Yahoo! Groups photos?
Thank you!

You can always leave your suggestions here: http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=groups on the suggestion board.
Subfolders is something we’re looking at doing but I don’t have a time frame for you, or whether or not it will be done for sure.
Thanks.
