Update: Message Search
UPDATE: If your group is having search issues please use the link below to report your issues to the team. Groups will be moved over again towards the middle of May . Reporting your group using this link will ensure that your group is one of the first to be moved over.
We’re happy to report that the first set of groups have been moved over to the new search solution. This search solution resolves the current broken message search, and improves search capabilities.
If you notified Customer Care that your group was experiencing difficulties with the message search feature, or, filled out the survey that was posted on March 17th, 2009 (http://www.ygroupsblog.com/blog/2009/03/17/groups-search-update/ ), prior to noon (5pm GMT) on April 2nd, 2009, your group has been moved over to the new search solution.
If you reported your issue AFTER 12pm PT (5pm GMT) on April 2nd, 2009, your group will be moved over in the coming weeks.
To report your group, please follow this link: http://surveylink.yahoo.com/wix/p6290938.aspx
You will need to provide your email address and the email address of the affected group (please provide the official email address of the group—this can be found at the bottom of the group’s homepage).
Thank you again for your patience.

Melissa,
Are you saying that Groups that do not register will not be moved over?

Melissa,
Most of my members can only get to the messages. They cannot access anything else at my site.

@oth,
No– eventually, all groups will be moved over, but as I mentioned in a previous post, we’re moving over affected groups/broken groups first before moving over non-affected groups.
This way we can ensure that the people who are negatively impacted by this issue are addressed first, and then people who are able to still search within their groups, next.
This fix will be rolled out to all groups in the near future, but we’re trying to give broken groups first priority.

I’ve been trying to update my new primary email address to have my groups messages come to my new addy. I can’t seem to get past some snag.

Is there something wrong with the daily digest format? I am getting e-mails from all my groups but the two I have set on daily digest (because there are so many e-mails). I have not been getting those e-mails for a week, though my settings on the website are accurate and I seem to be the only one from my groups affected.
Is that part of the problem?

I am trying to join a group but can’t get my e-mail address verified because of an error accessing the Yahoo servers. Error is: Oops! Looks like our servers are taking a break. Please try again later. (Error: #77315)
Please check it out.

I have not been receiving the daily digest for the womenwritingthewest group. Is there a way to make sure I receive that information? I rely on it for many purposes.
Thank you.

I am not able to post anything to YG online- whatever I try to do I get the log-in page? Sometimes I am let in for a short period but then I get the log-in page again.
This has been going on for about 10 minutes now.

I reported that Search on the group FairfieldLife was broken well prior to April 2. It’s still not functioning; it does not show any messages beyond March 19 (there have been hundreds since then).
(I did report it again yesterday, along with 14 of my other groups.)

Another extremely annoying problem: Even if you stay signed in to Yahoo, it asks you for your password every couple of weeks. This wouldn’t be a problem if it didn’t make the request *after* you have typed in a post and clicked Send. This results in the unrecoverable loss of the post.
Why couldn’t Yahoo ask for your password after you click Reply or Start Topic? If it did that, at worst you’d have to go back to the post you wanted to reply to, or click Start Topic again. You wouldn’t lose what you’d already written.

I have reporting our group 911 Parrot Alert with search problems … probably as far back as last year and we still cannot search after March 17th. I also filled out the form and apparently our group was not included in the original group and I’m furious!
Let me repeated, WE CANNOT OPERATE WITHOUT A FULL FUNCTIONING SEARCH !!! What else do I need to do to get you to listen to us!!!

We are losing volunteers left and right, due to your so-called update. Our volunteers are frustrated and unable to do their posts with any expedience. Our operation is totally non-functional without the ability to do searches and updates to our posts. The website is, to all intents and purposes, useless without this function. We cannot find messages posted BEFORE or AFTER March 19, 2009.
When can we expect the Yahoo Groups to be functioning again?

@Donna Shore,
I’m sorry you’re having such trouble– however, when I just pulled up your group I was able to pull up messages posted BEFORE March 19th. However, as you stated, I was not able to bring up messages after March 19th.
Your group was NOT included in this first migration/update as you did not report your issue through the link provided prior to April 2nd. I’ll check with Customer Care regarding your report (and your comment above). However, in the meantime, if you report your group using the link above, your group will likely be included in the next update.

I reported my Group: Animation_Addicts@yahoogroups.com
when the Search feature first started not working, then again after that.
The Search “Feature” is still NOT working for my Group. It has actually gotten WORSE. Now the Search is including Messages I have deleted!
When can I expect my Group’s Search to work properly on Messages? I rely on it every week to create my Group Activity Report for the week which has just ended.

@Diane,
Actually, your group was moved over in the fix and you should be able to retrieve/search old messages. (I just tested it on your group using the search term “floral” after noting that you had both recent and old messages that contained that phrase) and I was able to retrieve plenty of results.
The issue you’re talking about (showing deleted messages) is something else and is a known problem– I’ve put your group on the fix list for re-indexing. (This will hopefully solve these problems once and for all!)
Sorry for the hassle.

We reported that our search feature was not working on March 14, 2009 – long before 4/2/09 – but our search feature has not been restored. This is very frustrating in view of the fact that you state that the problem has been solved for Groups that reported the problem prior to 4/2/09.
Also – our posts are not showing up on our board – they are still delayed.

I reported our group many times for not being able to get messages after 3/19 when we do a search.
Hope this gets resolved soon. It really makes it difficult for us to do our moderator work. Thanks.

I had reported my search problems to Yahoo before the cutoff date! I have since reported it 2 or 3 times, with the last time being today.
If my Group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Animation_Addicts/ , has been migrated to the new update…it’s still not working.
If it hasn’t, why not???
I use the Advanced Search every week to check my Group’s Activity for the week which just ended. It still does not do an accurate search for the specific dates, either by just the dates, or by each Member’s Yahoo ID.
It still shows messages I have deleted !!!
I was under the impression all Groups would have been updated to the new Search Features by now. Why doesn’t my Group’s Advanced Search feature work yet??
Thanks for whatever assistance you can give me. I am tired of having to count every Member’s shares for the previous week by individual in my email folder.

My group, claycenterfreecycle is experiencing the March 19th search problem. I knew there was some sort of glitch, but I guess I didn’t know that I could report it.
I also think that I get previously deleted messages in my search, but when I click on them, they of course won’t come up.
Please fix it as soon as you can.
Thank you Very Much! Kathi

I’ve tried to perform Searches at stashbuster and QuiltvilleChat today (15 April) and yesterday (14 April). Neither Search pulled up anything after March 12, although I myself posted the messages I was looking for in late March.
What gives?

Champaign Urbana group has also reported problems with searching for latest messages and has never been contacted for more information. We are a huge group with easy 50 messages daily on a slow day.

Melissa,
Though this blog apparently is meant to placate the various affected groups that encounter problems in my mind it is having a negative rather than positive effect. Yahoo Groups has done a poor job of supporting the user communities since its inception! The amazingly poor implementation of the profile and the search flaw being two examples. The fact that your people ignore users by telling us that ‘this is a known bug’ as though this is some form of solution aggravates me. Your telling us that our groups will have fixes to the search problem by Mid-May and then still having us installed by Mid-June is another. Finally, the fact that this blog is virtually hidden like your form to report errors to support does not bode well for your future.

6 July 2009:
If the folks running Yahoo want to keep our business, they’d better solve problems like the message search problem promptly.
It’s tough to get customers… but it’s easy to lose them with poor service!
We’re looking at Google Groups as an alternative for our group.

Hi Melissa,
I reported quite some time ago about the problem our group is having with the search feature, but there has been no response or fix.
What can we do to be migrated to the new search, and over what timeframe could we expect this?
Thank you,
Chris
