Update (Jan 13): The album sort order bug(s) mentioned below are now fixed.
We are pleased to report that the migration to the new photos platform (which includes the new higher storage limits of 100GB per group as well as a number of other changes) is now complete for more than 99% of all groups. The remaining groups that have not yet been migrated are either:
- New groups created since mid-December.
- Groups where the automated migration process failed and which need to be migrated manually.
We hope to have migration completed for both these types of groups within the next couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, one bug on the new platform that lots of folks have noticed is the fact that photo albums are no longer sorting alphabetically by default (and when you do choose to resort them alphabetically, they are sorting "z to a" rather than "a to z").
The good news is that we have a fix for this bug almost ready, and we hope to have the fix pushed soon (possibly as early as this week). Once it is pushed albums will return to the standard, alphabetical default sort.
We’re also aware of two other significant bugs, but they are likely to take a bit longer to fix:
1. A small percentage of users are receiving "HTTP Status 500" when trying to access photos.
2. Moderators of groups that had reached the 100MB limit on the old system may receive a "API error = 1009" when trying to change the homepage photo of their group.
Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve these bugs. And thank you to the Yahoo! Groups engineers who have been working hard to complete this migration process and bring all groups onto the new platform.

I was wondering if the photos section in Yahoo! Groups will ever allow sub folders? I love the 100GB allowance for space, but I believe folders and subfolders will now allow for the pictures to be more organized. I am in some groups were there are 20+ pages of photos. Everyone seems to wish there were subfolders. Please let me know… will this ever happen?

We’re anxiously awaiting the file storage limit increase to 100GB for our Yahoo Group. We’re currently at 60% utilization and will run out of space by the end of 2009.

I’m not sure as to what issue you’re referring to as the Photo Migration problem (mentioned in this post, and in Jeff’s comment) was resolved back in January. If you’re still experiencing problems with this service, or any other Yahoo! Groups service, please do report the issue to Customer Care.

It says file type for picture not avialable under properties when I downloaded in JPEG and for some reason some of my JEPG pictures are dsplaying as html and so my old pictures that use to display as JEPG formate wont display because now yahoo groups screwed up evything and now my JPEG pictures are displaying as HTML. What the hell! YAHOO PLEASE FREAKIN CHANGE THE HTML BACK TO JPEGS WHICH IS THE FILE I DOWNLOADED IT WITH BECAUSE HTML DOESN’T SEEM TO WORK! So why did yahoo change my jpeg to html and make some not avlialable under properties?

well its now 7 months since ive seen any photos in the groups im in so is it worth being in yahoo groups ? all i get is http status error 500
ive had status error 500 trying to get access to the photos in the groups that im in for 6 months can anyone help as yahoo custermer care is about as good as a cold in the middle of a heat wave [no fun] as im in about 100 groups i find this very flustrating

What has happened to the New Photos links at the side of each email and also on the group homepage? Our group uses these links A LOT and we need to have them back. I have done fixes for them, but these are nothing like as satisfactory as how they were before.
Please, Yahoo, enough of the fancy new features. Please just sort the existing features so that at least they have the functionality that they had before.

I agree with you!! It takes me all morning to try and upload or delete photos to my group!! Frustrating as hell!! Want to pull my hair out!

A friend recommended this site for me to find items as we just moved, I have yet figured out how to view or find groups to join. I don’t have alaot of time and wonder if I am wasting my time trying?

Hi Kentucky Dan and All
The search feature that you are looking for is actually
included in most browsers. Now it won’t search thru
your whole Photos section, but it will indeed do what
you require on a page by page basis, both in the main
Photos index, or each individual album.
In Explorer use the “Edit” – Find (on this page) feature,
while with Mozilla Firefox its “Edit” – Find.
Firefox is the better of the two, as it stays open and ready,
and out of the way at the bottom of the screen.
The new sort works correctly in both in the main index
and the albums, and the “Slide Show” feature will scroll
thru every picture in a given album without the need to
change pages.
All in all, everything now seems to work as intended,
with perhaps the odd error code popping up now and then,
that so far seem to disappear with a retry or refresh.
Kudos to the group that had the frustration of not only
fixing the problems, but had bear the brunt of the non-
constructive criticism as well.
I also got a sense that our input was being responded to,
and this in my mind shows a new and different Yahoo.
Thanks gals and guys – will try to cut you all a little slack
on the next upgrade

I beg your pardon! I’ve looked at my groups photos again and found
the sort functions.
These will help a lot as will the new huge storage limit.
I’d still like to be able to jump to a specific user, album or section
of the alphabet.
How about a SEARCH function for group photos???
We have nearly 150 different photo albums in my group.
There is no way to find a specific album but to start at the beginning
and manually look through 20 or 25 albums at a time.
Then hit next, wait for the page to load and look some more…..
Sheesh, we’re on a computer how about using some of the computing
power to let us FIND what we’re looking for.
If I’m looking for an album there is no way to search by user name
or e-mail. Even if I know the name of the album there is no way
to jump to that part of the alphabet.
Photo’s need a decent search function please!

the ‘new photos’ section of all my yahoo groups no longer allows you to click on the ALBUM of the person posting the photo and go to their album!!!

Are there any plans to return the “Rearrange Photos” setting so that anyone posting in a photo album can rearrange the photos? We used this feature a lot in my group and having it available only to the owner/moderators is very limiting.
Any update on timeframe to re-instate stored attachments on the message boards? December’s post stated “in coming weeks” which I assumed would be by now. Thanks!
