Severed Cable Likely to Cause Delays

Update: As noted below, the problems caused by the severed cable are NOT limited to Yahoo! users in India. ALL groups are potentially affected.

That said, it’s certainly possible that other issues, unrelated to the cable, may also be causing some groups to have issues. So if your group is experiencing problems that you believe are unrelated to the cable (and all problems other than delays in messages from the group to individual mail accounts fall in this category), please do what you should always do in these situations: contact Customer Care:

We do read all comment posted on the blog. But the only way to actually get help from Yahoo! with a problem is to contact Customer Care.

The severed cable described in the article above is affecting the data connections for Yahoo! between the US and India.  One consequence is that group members may find the delivery of some mail messages delayed until this problem is resolved (which could be days or weeks).

This problem is likely to primarily affect Yahoo! Groups users in India but will not be limited to them. So if you suspect you’re not receiving all messages that have been posted to a group, we highly encourage you to visit the group’s message archive.

Thank you,

- Gordon

    @Man Joune,
This is actually an issue with Yahoo! Mail. The team is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it, but if you’d like, you’re welcome to report the issue to Customer Care. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/help_f.html

Same here; my mail isn’t coming through and there haven’t been any new messages to the group from other members. This can’t be connected to the cable anymore, can it? It’s been almost a month… I hope the Team comments on this issue.

  12. Ray says:

There is one of a few Groups that I belong to. One is not posting my messages. Instead, my messages are going to the spam folder in one Yahoo Group I belong to. The moderator/ owner has no problem with me sending messages to the Group. Is this another issue when sending messages to some groups you belong to?

  14. John Delacour says:

In the past week I have sent (from England) two messages to a group I belong to, svg-developers, neither of which has shown up either in email or in the group’s web page. I have just left the group and immediately re-subscribed to see if that makes any difference. One other member was puzzled at a long delay in the appearance of one of his postings, but mine have not shown up at all.

  15. jeff carlson says:

Not only are we getting no emails or web-posted-messages, our ENTIRE archive (6 years?) or messages are empty. *crossing fingers*.

  16. Terry says:

I wonder if there will be any action taken against the captain of the ship , anyway that aside , I notice there is a diffioculty getting into Moderator Central at the moment, perhaps is related to the severed cable .

  17. Beverly Oancia says:

Glad to see everyone is back on track and that Customer Care/Yahoo Groups Team have posted a confirmation that the severed cable overseas was to blame for that 24hr or so “black out” when no messages were being posted tp the Group or to individual email accounts.

P.S. Michael Homsi-I am based in Canada and my Group was defintely affected.

  18. allan says:

Thanks for inviting me to join in your group.

  19. heather says:

Yes finally my group is getting mail too…and our databases are back. When It finally started to work I have over 700 messages that came through all at once. i didn’t get a responce from customer care either but the group is back and that’s all that really matters.

  21. Spyder says:

Okay…mail that was sent by members at 1a.m. is now coming into the group. We’re going to have a mess of mail! But so glad it’s working…are the rest of you working now too?
    Spyder

  22. Spyder says:

FINALLY! Mail just started coming into my group a few minutes ago….we are all thrilled. 24+hrs with no mail in the group. We seem to have lost mail sent during that 24 hour period though…only new mail coming in…but we’re happy with that. And no response from Customer Care…or any notice to us at all.
    Spyder

  23. heather says:

I haven’t gotten a response yet either and I’m very upset because normally I’m luck to get only 300 messages a day. I’m very upset that Ih aven’t heard anything back yet.

  24. Stephanie HC says:

I have just been prowling around groups that I belong to (many of which I am on no mail if I have no moderator status and do not need to see everything as it comes) and VERY irritatingly, most of them do seem to be getting mail today!!!!! But the main one that I moderate? The one that runs over 1,000 messages every month? THAT one has been dead for over 24 hours! And no live response yet from YG after I replied to the autoresponder…..

  25. Michael Homsi says:

I didn’t notice any diffculties in Canada. Is the problem effecting Yahoo customers only ?

  26. Stephanie HC says:

Well it would be nice to get an update as to what we can expect – it will be moderator hell dealing with the backlog that we will have to deal with, it might have to hire a temp!

  27. mary says:

Having the same problem here with my group in the UK

  28. heather says:

I’m having that same problem stephanie. I haven’t had anything show up since about 5pm friday night. I even checked the group message archive this morning and notta….nothing…

  29. Stephanie HC says:

Access from the group site archives? Sorry – nothing has appeared there since 630pm last night (Friday night).

  30. rkjena says:

not able to understand about the group

  31. heather says:

I have no idea why it would effect NorthAmerican groups because that is what mine is too. And we too are high volume. This is upsetting me greatly because I don’t want any of my members to leave because of this problem.

  32. Spyder says:

Same here. No data bases in management. I have a NorthAmerican group…no mail in the group since 7:43pm last night. Nothing in the message archives either. I’ve posted to the group myself at 1am…twice…and nothing has appeared. We are very high volume, so by this time today there would have been lots of messages.

I emailed customer care, and nothing received back. This can’t be the cable cut problem…why would it affect our groups here?

When I go into my management pages, there is no data there, like if you check moderator activity…just says Group Server Error

What a great idea to put a message on the home page. If members think to look there when they see nothing coming through the group.

If anyone finds out when this will be fixed…please post here.
    Thanks!
    Spyder

  33. heather says:

    has anyone else’s databases disappeared?

  34. heather says:

I’m starting to wonder if it is this same problem because I checked this morning too and notta. No new messages have been posted and my group is extremely talkative. I’ve had private e-maisl asking if I was moderating because of this. Not even my messages are going through. Nothing in e-mail nothing on the group message board. Nothing. I’m hoping that yahoo will fix this and soon.

  35. Stephanie HC says:

Well, same thing here – I posted two messages that never came through – went to the archive – nothing there either. I am in the USA.

  36. Beverly Oancia says:

    Hi Heather:

I was glad to see my group wasn’t the only one having this same problem. I am going to post a message right on the homepage of my group to advise my members and check back again in the morning.

I hope by then to have some feedback from Yahoo on this issue.

  37. heather says:

Hi…I am the owner of a group in North America. I read about this problem then starting noticing that the messages that I sent to the group weren’t showing up in my e-mail or on the group message archive….Is this a seperate issue that Yahoo Groups is having or is this the same problem?

  38. Beverly Oancia says:

I am a Moderator for a Yahoo Group and have noticed that tonight several messages have not been posted nor have they shown up in my email account.

You say this severed cable will not affect Internet here in North America. Is this a separate Yahoo Groups issue?
