Fun facts about Yahoo! Groups

To end the year on a fun note, I thought I’d share some fun facts about Yahoo! Groups with all of you:

  • Did you know that Y! Groups has eight times the amount of members than the population of people living in Tokyo? (Source: 107 million Yahoo! Groups members and 12.4 million people in Tokyo).
  • Approximately 1 million Groups are formed each year (for those you are paying attention, Groups has been around for close to 9 years, so actually more than 1 million groups are formed each year)!
  • Yahoo! Groups has 107 million members across 8.8 million groups. (as of Nov. 1, 2007)

Happy New Year’s Eve everyone, I wish you all health, happiness, and abundance in 2008!

I don’t know where else to post issues so I’m going to do so here. In the past year something changed where the person sending a message does not receive it back themselves as they used to. As a result the sender believes that it did not post and sends it again resulting in duplicate messages. How do we change this back to even the sender receiving the email message? I have a large group and this duplication of emails is becoming a big deal. It used to work fine but changed and I’ve asked this question numerous times but have never received an answer.

In the past when any member sent a message to the group, they got that same message sent back to them as well as the rest of the group. Sometime last year that changed and the message is only sent to everyone else. As a result the sender is led to believe that it didn’t go through and ends up sending it again. Now almost every message posted is being sent twice.

How do we get back to working like it used to. Why does Yahoo insist on tinkering with things that work great only to screw them up?

The statistics is great to read. But most groups are cluttered up with past and non existing memebers. I would estimate at least 20% are dead accounts in the groups. There should be a system to clean up if there has been no activity by the so called memebr for more than six months or so. It avoids wasting time in searches and posts, and saves space in the servers too.
    Will yahoo consider?

How about some facts on the groups themselves. Like the oldest group? Most post, most members, most active group with stats of the activity etc.

    :)

Over 9 years I have been a club owner I have recieved many form letters from Yahoo during those years. I put to use a help form to Yahoo recently. Tonight I got back a form letter stating the email served as a warning and that I was barred. Very professional it was. Strongly suggesting the All Star programs benefits. Imagine that! I am an All Star and I have never been barred from anything. I resent the warning form letter to the max. I feel I’m owed an appolgy and not by a form letter. If Yahoo wants all players to pay as I do I suggest they first get a lot better organized and be a lot more careful who they send warning FORM letters to.
